PSYCHOTHERAPY
Psychotherapy helps to uncover the past experiences that shape all aspects of our development and the impact this has on current wellbeing. This approach may be useful for those seeking to resolve recurrent or persistent interpersonal challenges or difficulties stemming from long standing maladaptive patterns of behavior or past trauma. Some common topics explored in psychotherapy may be:
Identify patterns of self-judgment and cultivate tools to instill self-compassion.
Learn to eliminate toxic stress and set healthy boundaries in relationships.
Gain acceptance of things in the past we do not have control over.
Overcome acute traumatic or distressing life events that are rooted in dysfunctional past experiences.
For some, an in-depth examination on inner thoughts/feelings can lead to personal growth - while for others it may do more harm than good. To minimize risk of traumatization we always proceed in a trauma informed manner so the groundwork must be laid to make this approach impactful and decrease the chance of harm. COUNSELING
Counseling is typically, but not always, a brief treatment intervention lasting a few sessions to a few months and focused on resolving more immediate or current concerns. This approach takes life history and past experiences into consideration but does not focus on exploring these elements in depth. Some common concerns addressed in counseling can be:
Processing recent life transitions, grief and loss, or other acute traumatic events.
Learning effective ways to manage stress, regulate emotions and express feelings.
Cultivating skills for self-esteem, confidence, self-sufficiency and independence.
Improving communication and boundary setting skills in relationships.
COACHING
This approach is highly structured and focused on achieving very specific short term professional or personal goals. Coaching involves personalized support, care planning and guidance to help identify, utilize and build upon strengths and assets, preparing you for a life trajectory filled with powerful achievements.
My particular coaching style is straightforward with a high level of enthusiasm, optimism and positive energy. I give an increased degree of gentle accountability and place strong emphasis on making shifts from a problem focused mindset to one of positivity and self-confidence.
